Honda Civic Type R Limited Edition sells out online in 4 minutes in CanadaJun 15th, 2020
Well that was quick! But what else were we to expect from Honda’s sportiest Civic?
Canadians who dream of going fast in the 2021 Honda Civic Type R Limited Edition had to act fast to get one, because it took just four minutes for the car to completely sell out nationally.
Just 100 of the top-of-the-line performance variant Civic Type R Limited Edition were recently put up for pre-order online by Honda Canada, and based on the 240-second period it took to completely fill that allotment, there were likely more than a few who fans left frantically clicking the refresh button.
If that number sounds unfair, consider that the U.S. is only receiving 600 units, or six times the number as Canada, but has nearly ten times the population.
Still, condolences if you missed your chance at ownership…and congrats if you’re one of the lucky 100!
Because the 2021 Civic Type R LE is a visual statement with five doors. As a clear nod to its Type R heritage, it’s finished in an exclusive Phoenix Yellow paint with glossy black accents and a dark chrome Civic badge on the rear. Each unit has a numbered serial plate, denoting its order in the Canadian 100.
The hot hatch is also lighter and faster now thanks to a new set of kicks – lightweight forged aluminum wheels from BBS – and the removal of some sound deadening materials, which, let’s be honest, most Type R owners won’t miss.
Powering the 2021 Civic Type R is the same 2.0L direct-injection turbo 4-cylinder found in the current standard Civic Type R. That’s good for 306 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque, which is sent to the front wheels via a 6-speed manual transmission (huzzah!) and limited-slip differential.
The Civic Type R LE also comes with Honda Sensing, providing safety and driver-assist features like Adaptive Cruise Control, Collision Mitigation Braking System with Forward Collision Warning, Road Departure Mitigation with Lane Departure Warning and Lane Keeping Assist.
