Shamar Walker is clear: he is not a salesman. And while his title is, Sales & Leasing Consultant, he insists. Not a salesman.
“I don’t sell Hondas, they sell themselves,” he says. “I just make sure I help you buy the perfect one for you and your family needs.”
Shamar has been a Honda enthusiast since the age of 14 when his uncle gave him a 1993 Honda Accord Coupe and told him if he could fix it it was his.
Here’s some of his story.
Shamar, where are you from?
Where did you go to school and what did you take?
Brock University, Business Communications.
How long have you been working in the automotive industry?
How long have you been at Family Honda?
When were you first introduced to cars?
When I was 14 I was gifted a car from an uncle. He said if I could fix it I could have it. I started working on the car myself and had it running in six months. This was when my passion for cars started.
How do you describe to people what it is you do every day? (And what’s your official title?)
I don’t Sell Hondas, they sell themselves. I just make sure I help you buy the perfect one for you and your family needs. I am a Sales & Leasing Consultant, not a Salesman.
What is the most important aspect of your role at Family Honda and why does that matter to customers?
The most important part of my job is translating a guest’s needs and wants to a tangible vehicle. Often times our needs are not linear and have many variables that need to be considered. Customers benefit from my knowledge of our vehicle line up making the often-complicated buying process easy.
Have you always been a car person?
Not only have I always been a car person, I’ve always been a Honda Person. I have been building and racing vehicles at our local tracks for a very long time and wholly embrace Honda’s passion for racing. I am the kind of person that believes that each car has a personality. Honda has always been able to create a vehicle with a personality that I can connect to.
What was your first car?
1993 Honda Accord Coupe.
What are you driving today, and what do you like about it?
A 2015 Civic Si 4 door. It’s perfect for everyday driving and some fun at the track!! The larger 2.4L and sport inspired suspension and chassis are a perfect combination. It is a gorgeous vehicle that looks fast even when it is standing still.
What do you want people to know about Family Honda?
The customer always comes first. We will bend backwards to ensure your happiness.
How has the dealership experience changed, and how is Family Honda leading that charge?
Everyone shops online now. Family Honda has the right technology and software to make it a fast, easy, and a fair experience.
What’s the most satisfying part of your job?
The smile on your face when you are leaving in you brand new car.
What are some of your interests and hobbies outside of the workplace.
I am the definition of “Track Junkie.” All my time not spent at work is spent either under my vehicle tuning my car or zipping around the race track.
