The best Hondas for ski season, and how to equip themDec 20th, 2017
ne of the best ways to enjoy winter is to find a use for all the snow and cold. Skiing, snowboarding or even tobogganing remains among the top winter activities. Gravity + gear + snow = endless hours of fun. Plus, it is good for your health, and best of all, being outside with the cold wind blowing in your face all day will make you enjoy the warmth of the chalet even more when you finally get back!
Honda makes many vehicles that can get you to the hill and back in style and comfort. Here are some of the most suited for winter sports, and how to deck them out to get the most out of the season.
For the family: Odyssey
If you want to bring the whole family to the mountain with everything they will need for a weekend of fun, few vehicles can match the practicality of the 2018 Honda Odyssey. Its heated front seats will ensure you’re comfortable at the helm while the children at the back will be entertained by the rear screen with built-in viewing apps. Add to that available roof rails with a ski rack and/or a snowboard rack and everybody will be ready to hit the slopes.
For the back-country adventurer: Ridgeline
Skiing down well-travelled trails might be fun for a while, but eventually, you may want to get out of the beaten path and forge your own roads. For this, you need a Honda Ridgeline. It’s four-wheel drive and higher ride height will ensure that you will be able to go virtually anywhere. Its outside cargo area is easy to load with your skis and poles, and the available exterior speakers will give your expeditions a suitable soundtrack. For even more versatility, why not add a tow hitch? With a towing capacity of 5,000 lbs, it could easily pull a snowmobile or two on a trailer.
For the apres-ski specialist: Pilot
As much fun as skiing is, there is something to be said about getting back home after a long day on the mountain. Some would say that it is the high point of the day. For them, the Honda Pilot is ideal. The available heated and ventilated leather front seats will ensure your comfort, the panoramic moonroof will give you an amazing view of the winter night sky and the 9-inch rear screen with HDMI ports and Blu-Ray capabilities will turn any spare moment into a movie opportunity. There isn’t a lot you can add to make the Pilot more comfortable, but you can improve its look with a Chrome Package… because looking good in the parking lot is more important than you might think.
For the downhill speeder: Civic Type R
Do you have to be the first one down the slope? Can’t get enough of the adrenaline rush that comes with breakneck speed through trees and slower skiers? What if we were to tell you that you can get that same feeling on the road thanks to the Civic Type R? Its 305-horsepower turbocharged engine and close-ratio six-speed manual transmission will transform any commute into a race to the finish, and its rear hatch makes it roomy enough to bring a few pair of skis. Get some high-performance winter tires on all four corners, and your Type R will turn into one of the best parts of winter.
